New Painting : PINK PEONY

I get quite a few requests for floral paintings. My friend Sam Fisher was the latest person to ask me to paint her something for her bedroom. Since she said there is little to no color in her apartment, I thought a large floral piece over her bed would be a nice touch to her space......& I have to say, I love the final product. I woke up this morning to see the painting on the other side of my bedroom and the bright red and dark green contrast really makes this piece stand out. It measures out to be 30" x 40", acrylic on canvas.... I know she will have this forever.

THE BEAUTY OF PAPER ART

I consider myself to be a one-trick pony when it comes to art mediums. I love paint and canvas. But I ALWAYS appreciate artists who focus their work using anything but the "norm".

The times when paper was considered to be the primary medium for artistic expression is long gone. Many writers and designers use digital media to improvise and develop their ideas. However, there is something particular in this “physical” canvas — something that keeps us getting back to paper when we want to brainstorm ideas in a notebook, doodle around in a sketchbook, collect inspiration in a scrapbook or just draw some sketches for the next project.

In fact, paper is even more powerful than that. It is a very flexible medium. You can not only create a sharp-edged paper plane or ship, but also form twisted curves of nature or complicated geometrical shapes. I found some examples of artwork made out of paper... there were too many beautiful ones not to include in this post...

BP = Hot Mess

I hate to get political here, but as I learn more and more information about the recent oil spoil in the Gulf of Mexico... it's truly upsetting. When facts start to surface as to the actual amount of oil that is leaking in the ocean, & the residents and wildlife affected by this environmental disaster.... its just one gigantic mess of a situation.

LogoMyWay.com is holding a contest challenging designers to recreate BP's logo. The contest requests that the designers' new logos communicate the toxic nature of the oil spill, the death of wildlife, and the incompetence shown by BP. The winner, which will be chosen through public voting, will be awarded $200 dollars. Some examples follow.....

HEEEEYYYY Money Money Money ...HEY!!!!!

Money and art generally never mix... well not in these examples! I came across some works that are made of exactly that.. Lets just say I'd rather buy lunch with five bucks rather than use it for display...enjoy!

This was my favorite work to begin with.. I thought it was really original and plays with both vertical and horizontal views.

QUEEN piece.. love it.

Evening number... this certainly costs more than a designer gown... well... maybe not

Animal Graffiti Street Art

Belgium street artist ROA puts animals back in the urban jungle. He draws black and white bunnies, rats, birds on walls of many European cities (Paris, Warsaw, London...).

This stuff is kinda breathtaking....
