Leap of Faith

February 29 is a date that occurs every four years, and is called leap day. This day is added to the calendar in leap years as a corrective measure, because the earth does not orbit around the sun in precisely 365 days..... Well the idea of the calendar and "leaping" had me thinking about time and having a "leap of faith". Now that we are well into 2012, I truly believe we have to "leap" with hope for the future. This Winter didn't give us as much weather as we anticipated and as Spring is right around the corner .... (figuratively and physically) growth is here.

I was out with a few friends last night for a much needed Taco Tuesday (aka girlfriend catch-up), and we were all expressing our hopes of leaping into the rest of the year with anticipation. One friend is getting married in the next month, while others of us are just hoping to spend 2012 with more time traveling, spending time with friends, and perusing our career goals. I'm leaping into my future with excitement for whatever it is that may come, because as I've seen in my 20's; every year is so different.

HAPPY LEAP YEAR!

Anthropologie (my secret art haven)

I'm lucky that I work in Beverly Hills. During lunch time I love walking down the street (not just because I may run into an A-list celebrity at Starbucks ---> which happens quite frequently) but also to window shop at the high-end retail stores.

One of my favorite shops, Anthropologie, has done an amazing job on their store displays. Over the years they have incorporated every material imaginable from paper, to metal, to paint.... to playfully entice people to walk through their artsy shop. I took a few pictures from last week when I went through there. The amount of art, texture, and color they have going on in their space is incredible. And when you stop to take note of all the details.... you realize why this franchise is such a popular place to experience.

Eye-candy-all-round.

I was loving these paper sculptures... so effortless, and yet I would never have come up with them..

*note as I was leaving the store, several of the stores window-display-team-members were installing a new piece... it was all I could do to not ask if I could participate in what looked like an arts and crafts project. Painting, gluing, and pasting all day?!! So fun!

Twitter!!! Follow Me!!

Tweet. Tweet. Tweet.

I have been guilty of being an absolute mess. I've sent the last several months juggling working full time, volunteering, painting over 30 hours a week and (TRYING) to maintain a social life with friends, family, and a boyfriend. In the meantime of getting my Karlin Meehan products online (you'll also be able to get prints, paintings, and mugs at fleur de lys costa mesa this April)... I've tried to communicate as much as I can through social media. You can follow me @ karlinmeehan on Twitter.

Did you also know you can find my art page on Facebook at Karlin Meehan Artwork? At 100 fans I decided to give away a free painting and I promise to do the same when I get to 500. You'll be able to see updates of my paintings and new art shows there!

Rose Painting

I just started a new painting yesterday of a pink rose. The request was made by my 5th Grade Teacher Ms. Holmes, who I still am in touch with (oh the wonders of Facebook). She moved to Montana years ago, however, shes not a fan of the cold winters up there and still longs for warm weather of Southern California. She gave me a list of the flowers that she loves, including pink roses, and I thought a bright painting for her is exactly what she needs to enliven her home. I'm still in the very beginning stages, but heres the progress so far....

10 Great Coffee Pics, and Graphics

There's a reason 'coffee' is part of the name of this blog. I love it! And as I was getting up this morning, it was all I could do to drive to work and turn on my brain. I needed an extra boost to get through this Friday and settle in for the long weekend (so exciting) so I made a little stop at Coffee Bean for a Latte. It made me so happy, as do these coffee images.

*Maybe I need to print out a few of the graphic ones and frame them, they would be so appropriate in my kitchen, next to the coffee maker!

Will You Be My Valentine? Some Great Valentines Day Cards I Have Found...

I just LOVE Valentines day. This holiday is centered around everything that a girly-girl loves: pink, bows, chocolate, flowers, and most importantly cheeky-sweet, sentimental Valentines Day cards that are adorned with hearts. Can it get any better then that?

When I was younger, my crafty Mom always insisted that I hand-made my Valentines rather then buy the generic ones at the drugstore. I would cut pink paper into hearts and adore it with glitter and doilies... I long for those days. I went on a Google search for the best Valentines Day card ideas and found some gems. I think I may attempt to make a cute one for my Boyfriend this year.
